Structuring Summer Camp for Long Term Growth

Guest Speakers: Mary Jessica Hammes & Ana Madrid

This discussion is for those studios who want to start, grow, or bring new ideas to their camp programming, which will in turn grow the overall studio. This is the time of year to start planning and laying the groundwork for camp programming, especially if you’d like to do a dry run with a fall or winter mini-camp.

Canopy offers 9 weeks of summer camp, multiple fall and winter mini-camps in October, November, and December, and a weeklong spring break camp in April, all alongside regular adult/child class programming. In our roundtable discussion, we will share how camp programming significantly impacts the studio’s overall budget and growing enrollment. We will also be prepared to talk about  the logistics of scheduling, staffing, marketing, funding, providing scholarships/financial aid, how to teach a wide range of ages at camp, differentiation of instruction within small groups, managing student behavior, including students with disabilities, avoiding staff burnout, and applying SEL/Trauma-informed teaching practices to all of it.

Mary Jessica Hammes has 23 years experience teaching single point trapeze and 10+ years classroom teaching experience/PD (preschool, middle school ELA, high school journalism); Ana Madrid has her Masters in Education from UGA, taught in a Montessori classroom for many years, and has over 10 years of experience teaching single point trapeze.
